Advantages:

• MPEG data gives very high quality video, and is a very popular format that is used in CD-I video cds and the latest DVD video discs also on the internet this format is very popular.
• All the new multimedia PC have a DVD drive installed so also a DVD hardware playback card which supports MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 movies. Thanks to hardware card the MPEG-1 movies (usually 320x240) play at very high quality at full screen resolution. The hardware cards have extra chips included that use a special algorithm to do the full screen scaling, which gives very smooth result, without any pixelizations effects.
• MPEG-1 needs far less CPU time then its competitors even if everything happens in software. Sorenson for example needs about twice as much CPU Time. So thanks to MPEG-1 you can still target your CD-ROM for the lowend Pentium 120mhz market!
